How to trace the location from where an email has been sent?

Have you ever received a suspicious mail like you won a huge lottery work hundreds of thousands of dollars or any currency for that matter. First of all a simple advice there nothing free in this world and please do not believe in such things.

If you want to check the authenticity of the mail or the origin(location) of that mail then you can easily do it by checking the header of the mail. The email header is the information that travels with every email, containing details about the sender (including the IP address), route and receiver.

There are different ways of finding email header for each mail provider for example for gmail, click on drop down on Reply like below and click on Show Original

For Yahoo just click on Full Header.
You can easily find different ways of finding email headers here for differnt email services like Outlook, Hotmail etc

Copy the header and paste it into the http://www.ip-adress.com/trace_email/ text box and press submit. You will immediately see the location from which the email was sent. This way you can cross check if the mail has been sent from exactly the location from which the content of the mail claims to be sent from.

Happy safe email surfing...If you find this useful do not forget to leave a comment..
